Between 6 October and 5 November, the software we built to watch Reddit for our partners found 525 organic mentions of seven of them: people naming the product in a thread about what to buy, comparing it with a rival, complaining about it, or mentioning it in passing. None came from our own accounts.
Those 525 describe two different brands, and yours is one of them. Four in five belonged to one partner with a large user community, whose month read like a second support queue. The other six partners shared 115 mentions, about 19 each, and most were a name in passing. The case for reading Reddit every day is different for each.
Reddit is easy to file as a channel for later. Empact Partners, a go-to-market consultancy, works the other way round: for every B2B software company we run Reddit for, we read before anyone posts and every day after. That read is where our Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) work starts, getting a partner named in AI answers.
Reddit Hears What Buyers Do Not Tell a Vendor
Buyers go to Reddit for the one review a vendor cannot write, which is why Reddit matters to software buyers as much as it does. What they tell each other there, nobody tells the vendor’s sales team. A month of it across our seven partners sorted into five kinds, and the day’s read suggested a different move for each.
| What the mention was | Of the 525 | What the day’s read suggested |
|---|---|---|
| A reply naming the partner in a thread asking what to use | 140 | a reply from us in 77; 97 of the 140 were positive |
| A complaint | 110 | passing it to the partner’s own team in 89 |
| A name in passing | 151 | watching it, or nothing at all, in 140 |
| A comparison with a rival | 37 | a reply from us in 17 |
| Reviews, questions, news and the rest | 87 | a mix of all four |
Most of that table is the partner with the big community. A quarter of its month was complaints, four in five of them things only its own team could fix, and more than a quarter was users answering a buyer with its name. For a brand like that the question is never whether to read, only whether anyone reads before the thread finishes without them.
A quiet B2B brand gets the opposite signal, and it is a trap. Across the other six partners a month held about 19 mentions each, a few buying threads and fewer than two complaints, and four in five of the mentions needed watching or nothing at all.
A team that checks Reddit once a month finds almost nothing about itself and concludes nobody is talking. Meanwhile the threads where buyers ask what to use in its category carry on, and the people answering them name somebody else.
Most of a Buying Thread Is Written in Its First Day
We timed how a B2B software buying thread fills. We took 108 threads posted between February and June 2026 in eleven subreddits where software is bought and run, from r/sysadmin to r/hubspot. Each asks which tool to use, compares two or wants an alternative, and each has at least ten comments. We set every comment’s time against the post’s.
The first reply from someone other than the person asking came 13 minutes after the post at the median. By the end of the first day, the median thread held two thirds of all the comments it has had since, and three in four of the threads were more than half written.

Read the curve as three schedules. Check once a day and you meet a typical buying thread with about a third of its conversation still to come, while it is still taking answers. Check once a week and over 90% of it is already written. Check once a month and you are reading history.
Reading by the minute buys less than it costs. The first answer usually comes within the hour whoever is watching, and what decides the thread is whether anyone says something useful in it, which takes a person who has read it.
Our partners’ consultants get one digest a day, every mention in it read and sorted, rather than a message per mention. A day is the slowest schedule that still meets a buying thread while it is being written.
A Thread You Find Late Keeps Answering Buyers for a Year
A buying thread stops filling within days and then stays where it is. More than half of the 108 were still drawing the odd comment a month later. Asked on 4 November what real users say about 214 software companies, ChatGPT and Google AI Mode cited Reddit threads that were 343 days old at the median, and 336 of the 716 were older than a year.
By title they were the threads a buyer opens to decide: someone asking whether anyone uses the product, a review, one tool against another. A quarter of them, 185 of 716, were archived, which on Reddit means nobody can reply any more.
The complaints our Reddit Index had flagged about the same companies were a different set: chosen from recent mentions, a median of 44 days old, and nine in ten still open. Only 56 of the 716 threads the engines cited were among them.

Put the two lists side by side and the cost of reading late is plain. Nobody can tell on a thread’s first day whether an engine will quote it next year, and by the time one does, the thread may no longer take an answer.
When an AI answer already repeats a Reddit complaint, the work is slower and runs through fixes and newer evidence. Reading every buying thread in your category while it is open is the part a team can do every day.
Reading those threads is the user half of our formula for GEO: what real users say about a brand in public, and what other sites write about it, decide whether ChatGPT and Google AI Mode recommend it. Google AI Mode leans on Reddit far more than ChatGPT does in our own measurements, so a brand whose buyers search with Google feels it first.
Reading Every Day Is Not Replying Every Day
Daily reading sounds like a commitment to daily posting, and it works out close to the opposite. Of the 525 mentions, the read suggested a reply from us in 139, passing 107 to the partner’s own team, watching 218, and doing nothing about 61. More than half needed no reply from anyone. Each day’s read ends in one of four calls:
The reply is the part Reddit’s moderators and members push back on when it reads like a brand or a bot, so it goes out from a person who knows the subreddit’s rules and the partner’s product.
The reading cannot be skipped to make room for the replies. It is the job under every Reddit program, and it does not stop once the brand starts posting.
One person can run the first version before work: read the few subreddits where your buyers ask, every morning, and note what the threads say about you and your rivals.
That stops holding at the size our partners’ categories reach. Our watch lists ran from 82 to 638 subreddits per partner when we built them, and Reddit’s own search does not read comments, so a brand named only in a reply stays invisible to anyone searching. Done every day for quarters, the read is somebody’s job.
We Built Software for the Daily Read, and a Consultant Owns What It Finds
Empact Partners built its own Reddit monitor in October 2026. The daily read repeats for every partner, every day, and repeated work is what we build into software a named consultant directs. We call that marketing engineering.
The software reads new posts and comments across each partner’s subreddits through the day. Once a day, at 23:00 Chile time, it puts that day’s mentions in front of the partner’s consultant, each read and sorted, with the consultant tagged on the complaints and the opportunities.
An engagement starts with where your buyers ask
The first piece of work is an audit: the subreddits the AI engines cite in your category, where you and your rivals were discussed in the past year, and where your team already posts. A named senior consultant owns the read from then on.
Complaints only your team can fix are passed to your team, and the replies worth making are posted by ours, never automatically. On the 20th of each month you get a report on what was said about you, what we did about it, and where you stand against your competitors on Reddit. It runs for quarters, because GEO takes months before momentum shows.
The first month tells you which brand you are
Most of the first monthly reports we sent had no organic mention of the partner at all, and their value was the category’s threads: which subreddits to show up in next, and which competitor got there first. For a brand with a big community the program is the other one, getting each complaint to the people who can fix it while the thread is still open.
If buyers in your category are asking each other what to use and nobody on your team reads those threads, book a call with me. We will work out together whether we should be the ones reading them.
